About Us
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is to "Be of Service to All Man Kind".
Phi Omicron Omega Chapter was established on February 25, 2000, at the Officer's Club on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, by fifteen Sorors committed to continuing their service to all mankind. Under the leadership of Dr. Norma Solomon White (National President) and Dr. Wilma Holmes-Tootle (International Regional Director), the charter members Tonya M. Adkins, Denise Alexander, Leslie Austin-Harris, Tamara M. Brown-
Douglas, Andrea Fauntleroy, Gina Feast-Williams, Lesley M. Houston, Gwynne Ingram, Monica L. Lofton, Jacqueline B. McNeil, Elaine Stephens, Linda Ware-Brown, Davedda Williams, Kimberly A. Williams, and Lisa M. Williams effectively transitioned from the interest group The Ladies of Distinction. Omega Omega Chapter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rho Theta Omega Chapter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rho Nu Omega Chapter of Seoul, South Korea; Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter of Queens, New York; Pi Psi Omega Chapter of Spring Valley, New York; and Xi Chi Omega Chapter of Westchester, New York all participated in the celebration of the Phi Omicron Omega Chapter's chartering. Phi Omicron Omega chapter members have consistently demonstrated their commitment to community service through their involvement in tutoring base school students, donating canned food to the local Okinawan American-Asian school, supplying the Okinawa Domestic Violence Shelter with clothing and toiletries, organizing community forums and social events, and other initiatives.


Chapter History

Furthermore, the chapter ensures academic excellence while awarding annual scholarships to high school graduates through a variety of successful scholarship initiatives. Over the years, "Men Who Cook," "Father and Daughter Dance," and "Mother and Daughter Tea" have been the chapter's signature programs. Under the direction of the chapter president, members have laboriously implemented all programs and objectives of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on the island of Okinawa for the duration of the chapter's existence. Chapter sororities have been honored with a number of
distinctions. Chapter of the Year 2019 International Regional Conference, first place for International Graduate Chapter President, best of the best in overall reactivation, MIP document submission, and excellence in report submission, Platinum EAF Chapter; second place for graduate chapter programs and graduate chapter exhibit; and third place for HBCU EAF donations, reactivation day, and international chapter of the year.
Furthermore, at the 2018 International Regional Conference, the chapter received the following honors: First Place for Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Overall LNDS, EAF Platinum Chapter, International Graduate Chapter Member of the Year, and International Graduate Chapter President of the Year; Third Place for 1 Million Backpack and Environmental Ownership.
